Backseat Driver is an app in development. This page is a waitlist, and this notice explains the little we collect while it runs. It's written to meet our obligations under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who's responsible
The data controller is the individual operating Backseat Driver. You can reach us at mcshane.artie@gmail.com for anything on this page.
What we collect
- Your email address — only if you type it into one of the waitlist forms and tick the consent box.
- Which form you used — whether you signed up from the top or the bottom of the page. This tells us which part of the page works.
- Which price you tapped — if you tapped one of the two pricing options before signing up, we record which one, so we know what feels like a fair price.
- Where you came from — the name of the site or post that linked you here, so we know where to talk to people. Not your IP address, and not your browsing history.
- The date you signed up.
- Anonymous page statistics — how many people visited, how far down they scrolled, and which pricing option they tapped.
We do not collect your name, your location, your phone number, or anything about your driving.
Why we collect it, and our lawful basis
We use your email address for exactly one thing: to email you once, when the app launches. Our lawful basis is consent — the box you ticked. You can withdraw it at any time, and it's just as easy to withdraw as it was to give.
For the anonymous statistics, our lawful basis is legitimate interests: understanding whether anyone wants this app before we build it. Because the data can't identify you, this has no meaningful effect on your privacy.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies at all, and does no cross-site tracking. That's why you weren't shown a cookie banner.
Who else is involved
- Supabase stores the waitlist database on our behalf.
- Vercel hosts this site, runs the small piece of code that passes your email address to Supabase when you sign up, and counts page visits without cookies and without collecting personal data.
None of them is permitted to use your details for their own purposes, and we don't sell or share your email address with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until we've sent the launch email, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first. If the app doesn't go ahead, we delete the whole list and tell you we've done it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask us for a copy of your data, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent. Email mcshane.artie@gmail.com and we'll action it within 30 days. You don't need to give a reason, and asking won't cost you anything.
